'Twas the Night Before Pre-K....

Soooo I tried to post this back in August the actual night before she started school, but it wouldn't load and there were other issues! It's a few minutes long, but I thought it was pretty cute! We had already gone to "meet the teacher" night so she knew who her teacher was and how the classroom was set up! Enjoy!

Pig Day!

Yes, it says Pig Day! Evidently March 1st is National Pig Day! At Bryawna's school, this is VERY big deal! We started receiving information about it the end of January! The main reason they celebrate it is to collect donations for the Heifer Foundation. This organization provides livestock (in this case Pigs) for families in third world countries to help with a means to survive. In most cases the families raise the pigs and breed them and sell the babies, but sometimes they are also used for food. A large pig can feed a family for quite a while!

ANYWAY! The day begins with putting on the "Pig Day Shirt" which the kids decorated in class weeks ago! Then the girls style their hair in "Pig Tails" because there is a contest for the "Perfect Pig Tails!" THEN they announce the winners in Chapel of the "Pig Art" contest. THEN the "Perfect Pig Tails" contest. THEN they honor Pig Day with a Hot Dog (all beef) lunch! THEN (I told you this was a BIG deal) the festivities end with a "Pig Race!" Yes, a race! But not with live pigs! No, these are battery operated toy pigs that walk and oink! They come in a variety of colors and the kids name them AND decorate them for this special occasion!

How did Bryawna do in all this?

Well, for her very 1st Pig Day, I would say pretty well! She won the "Perfect Pig Tails" contest for her class!

Then for the art contest this year had to be made out of recycling! We are from CA! We have lots of recycling to choose from! (not everyone recycles in Texas) She named her art pig "Starlight Song." This mixed media project consisted of a plastic strawberry container, a large trail mix container, an empty spice container for the tail, a yogurt container for the nose, small water bottles for the legs, buttons for the eyes, and recycled construction paper for the ears! Bryawna chose everything herself and painted it herself! I had to help a little with the gluing because we used hot glue! Anyway, for all this hard work she earned the "Most Creative Use of Materials" award (and an "Aaaaaawwwe" from the crowd)! She was called up to the front of Chapel (the whole school) to claim her award!

Next was the big race! They had 170 contestants! So they had to divide up the age groups and then they had 3 different "tracks." Bryawna's pig "Starlight Rainbow" won 2nd place in her group!!!!

What a fun day for the parents and students!
